Community projects
Not just our own gardens...we plant and maintain the following:
- Jubilee Park Commemorative Canoe
- Butterfly Garden
Jubilee Park Commemorative Canoe
The Jubilee Park Commemorative Canoe planter was initially installed in Bridgetown for the sesquicentennial of Canadian Confederation in 2017 (otherwise known as Canada 150). For this event the canoe was planted with a variety of annuals symbolizing our national colours including red geraniums, white/red dianthus, red celosia, white million bells, green and purple potato vine and trailing lamium. The canoe planter was so widely received it was requested again in 2018 and is now a permanent display at the park. Watch for seasonal themes!
Jubilee Park is located at 224 Evangeline Trail, Bridgetown, NS. You can't miss our canoe at the entrance to the park. |
Butterfly Garden
The Butterfly Garden in Jubilee Park was first established in 2017 as a collaborative project between the Municipality of the County of Annapolis, the Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute (MTRI) and the BACG. Due to environmental factors as well as natural disasters such as hurricanes, the monarch butterfly population is in serious decline. The MTRI has been encouraging the planting of such gardens in hopes of improving the natural habitats of these pollinators and their food sources.
Initial plantings at our garden included Joe Pye weed, milkweed and asters. The BACG maintains the Butterfly Garden with periodic weeding, mulching and replacement of plants. |
